Moto Life: How Local Motocross Racing Shapes You

March 27, 2022
Words: Zach Newberry

As someone involved in motocross racing for over 22 years, this sport has molded me into who I am today. The lessons I have learned on and off the track have taught me the values of competition, grit, motivation, gratification, self-awareness, responsibility, independence, and many more positive outcomes. Motocross racing is more than just a sport; it is a way of life that shapes individuals for years to come.

One of the best things about motocross racing is the community it creates. While racers start as competitors, they quickly become friends who support and help each other. Whether you forget something at home or your bike breaks down, someone is always willing to lend a hand, even if they are your competitor. This camaraderie extends to the entire motocross community, where weekend getaways are spent with friends, family, and the individuals you meet at the track.

Local motocross racing is the core of this sport, and without it, the pros would not be in the spotlight they are today. The life lessons learned right alongside your family and friends are priceless. There aren’t many sports where a 4-year-old and a 50-year-old share the same goals and interests, but in motocross racing, that is the norm. The sport brings together people of all ages and backgrounds, united by a shared passion.

It is where you develop the skills and techniques necessary to succeed in higher-level competitions.

Mike Farr, a founder of NCMX, has been involved in motocross racing for over 45 years. As a racer and parent of a racer, he has seen firsthand the positive impact the sport can have on families. The time spent together at the track is irreplaceable, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

"The life lessons learned right alongside your family and friends are priceless!"

Motocross racing teaches valuable life skills that extend beyond the track. Riders learn the importance of discipline, hard work, and dedication, which can be applied to all aspects of life. The sport also teaches riders to take calculated risks, which can help them navigate through life’s challenges and opportunities.

To wrap this up, local motocross racing is a gnarly and exciting sport that molds individuals into the best versions of themselves. The community, the lessons learned, and the memories created are just some reasons why this sport is so great. Whether you are a racer or a spectator, the world of motocross racing has something to offer everyone. So next time you visit your local motocross track, take a moment to appreciate the culture and community that surrounds this fantastic sport.
